Glass Quills have been invented in the 18th century as an alternative to the goose quills, which have been used in masses by that time but had to be imported from abroad countries.

During the 19th century the Glass Quills as well as the goosequills were superseded by the metal nibs, which were also very durable and could be produced by the industry at very low costs.

Nonetheless the Glass Quills are very popular even today and are used for normal writing as well as for drawing and scetching. Also for children and for the lefthanded they are very easy to use.

A favourable attribute of the Glass Quill is that on its curled surface there is enough ink stored for the writing of many sentences; You don't need to dip in the ink after every few words. Also Glass Quills are very solid and stable, but they can break of course, if they fall on the ground or are hit on the bottom of the inkstand. So dip in very carefully!

Pen holder with glass pen points

The glass pen points offered here are antique and were manufactured in the beginning of the 20th century. Originally they were put into special wooden holders and could be replaced when the glass tip was damaged. I glue the glass tips with silicone into the normal penholders, because exchanging them has proven difficult due to the varying thickness of the tips. If the holder does not fall off the table, the tips can be used for years with almost no wear.

The marbled penholders are individually handmade and the marbling therefore varies in design.
